Conferences

We are delighted to announce the husITa human service technology track at the Social Work, Education and Social Development 2018 Conference to be held in Dublin from the 4th to the 7th of July 2018. This important international conference is being organised on behalf of the International Federation of Social Workers, the International Association of Schools of Social Work and the International Council on Social Welfare.

Neil Ballantyne (husITa Chairperson) and Ann Lavan (husITa Secretary) negotiated the technology stream on behalf of husITa with John Brennan, Chairperson of the conference Local Organising Committee. We had over 90 abstracts submitted for the technology track and have selected a strong programme that includes 43 oral presentations, two symposia and six workshops. All of the husITa sessions will be held in room Dodder B in the RDS.

In addition to the presentations there will be a husITa field visit to University College Dublin on Thursday the 5th of July from 1.30 till 5.00 where delegates can learn about cyber security, virtual learning, data protection and data storage. This will be followed by a husITa networking session at 5.15 for members and associates of husITa old and new. To mark the 30th anniversary of husITa,  Dick Schoech will welcome other founder members as guest speakers to reflect on the past and future of husITa: speakers will include Jackie Rafferty, Jan Steyaert, Hein de Graaf, Dick Schoech & Walter LaMendola.

Finally, on Friday the 6th July at 3.00, Walter LaMendola (one of the founding members of husITa) will make a keynote speech on behalf of husITa at a plenary session of the conference.

Very shortly, we will be issuing a call for papers to be submitted to a special husITa18 conference issue of the Journal of Technology in Human Services. This issue will be open to all husITa18 presenters and will be edited by Ann Lavan and Gloria Kirwan.

The conference programme is now open for review (to see the husITa sessions, filter by the technology stream or by the location Dodder B). Early bird registration is now open until the 6th of April and any member of the husITa mailing list can claim the reduced husITa rate.

The official husITa hashtag for this event is: #husITa18

We look forward to seeing you in Dublin.
